Description

Classic Philly Cheesesteak Meatloaf takes everything craveable about a cheesesteak sandwich—sautéed peppers, onions, and gooey provolone—and folds it right into a juicy, hearty meatloaf.

Ingredients

2 lbs ground beef (80/20)

1 medium green bell pepper, diced

1 medium yellow onion, diced

2 cloves garlic, minced

8-10 slices provolone cheese

3/4 cup breadcrumbs

2 large eggs

2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

Salt and black pepper, to taste

1/4 cup ketchup or steak sauce (optional glaze)

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).

2. Sauté the diced onion and pepper in a skillet over medium heat until softened, about 6-8 minutes, adding garlic in the last minute. Let cool slightly.

3. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, cooled vegetables, breadcrumbs, eggs, and Worcestershire sauce. Season with salt and pepper and mix gently, being careful not to overwork it.

4. Press half the meat mixture into a loaf pan. Layer provolone slices down the center, then top with the remaining meat mixture, sealing the edges.

5. Brush the top with ketchup or steak sauce glaze, if using.

6. Bake 50-60 minutes, or until internal temperature reaches 160°F.

7. Top with remaining provolone slices and bake 3-5 more minutes until melted.

8. Let rest 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

Ground turkey or a beef-pork blend can be substituted for the ground beef.

No provolone on hand? White American or mozzarella work well too.

Add sautéed mushrooms with the peppers and onions for extra flavor.

Don’t skip the resting time—it keeps the slices juicy instead of falling apart.
