Description
Crispy cheese jalapeno balls with a golden, crunchy panko shell and a molten, spicy cheddar-jalapeno center—the addictive appetizer everyone fights over at game day.
Ingredients
8 oz cream cheese, softened
1 cup sharp cheddar, shredded
3-4 jalapenos, finely diced (seeds removed for less heat)
1 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup all-purpose flour, for dredging
2 eggs, beaten
1 1/2 cups panko breadcrumbs
Oil for frying
Instructions
1. In a bowl, combine cream cheese, cheddar, diced jalapenos, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt until fully mixed.
2. Cover and refrigerate the mixture for at least 30 minutes until firm.
3. Scoop and roll the chilled mixture into 1-inch balls.
4. Set up a breading station with flour, beaten eggs, and panko. Dredge each ball in flour, then egg, then panko.
5. Freeze the breaded balls for 15-20 minutes to help them hold together.
6. Heat oil to 350°F (175°C) and fry balls in small batches for 2-3 minutes, turning occasionally, until deep golden brown.
7. Drain on a wire rack and let rest a few minutes before serving.
Notes
Remove jalapeno seeds and membranes for a milder flavor, or leave them in for extra heat.
Swap cheddar for pepper jack for a spicier kick.
Prefer baking? Bake at 425°F for 15-18 minutes, flipping halfway, with a light spray of oil.
Serve warm with ranch or a cool dipping sauce for the best gooey contrast.
