Description

Restaurant-quality Sesame Crusted Tuna Steak with a crispy sesame seed crust, buttery rare center, and a creamy homemade wasabi sauce. This quick and healthy seafood recipe is ready in just 20 minutes and pairs perfectly with steamed rice or a fresh Asian cucumber salad.

Ingredients

4 sushi-grade tuna steaks (6 oz / 170 g each)

2 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce

1 tbsp sesame oil

1 tbsp olive oil

1 tsp grated fresh ginger

1 clove garlic, minced

1/2 tsp black pepper

1/4 cup white sesame seeds

1/4 cup black sesame seeds

1/2 cup mayonnaise

2 tbsp Greek yogurt

1 tsp wasabi paste (adjust to taste)

1 tbsp fresh lemon juice

1 tsp soy sauce

1 tsp honey

2 green onions, thinly sliced

1 tsp sesame seeds

Pickled ginger, for serving

Lemon wedges, for serving

Instructions

1. Pat the tuna steaks dry with paper towels.

2. In a shallow dish, whisk together the soy sauce, sesame oil, grated ginger, garlic, and black pepper.

3. Coat the tuna steaks lightly in the marinade and let them rest for 10 minutes.

4. Combine the white and black sesame seeds on a large plate.

5. Press each tuna steak firmly into the sesame seeds until evenly coated on all sides.

6. Heat the olive oil in a heavy skillet over high heat until shimmering.

7. Sear the tuna for 1 to 2 minutes per side for rare to medium-rare, or cook longer to your preferred doneness.

8. Whisk together the mayonnaise, Greek yogurt, wasabi paste, lemon juice, soy sauce, and honey until smooth.

9. Slice the tuna against the grain into thick slices.

10. Serve with the wasabi sauce, then garnish with green onions, sesame seeds, pickled ginger, and lemon wedges.

Notes

Always use sushi-grade tuna if serving rare or medium-rare.

For a gluten-free version, substitute tamari for soy sauce.

Adjust the amount of wasabi paste to your preferred spice level.

Serve immediately for the best texture and flavor.

Delicious with steamed jasmine rice, Asian cucumber salad, or sautéed vegetables.
